Our three and four-year-old preschool program offers a rich child-centered curriculum with a spiritual emphasis on the goodness of God and the wonders of His creation. Three and four- year-olds are encouraged to learn, think and explore with games, blocks, stories, cooking experiences, field trips, art, discussions and group projects.
The academic areas covered in our curriculum include Bible, phonics based reading, language arts, math, social studies, science, music and story-time. Four-year-olds also have physical education and an introduction to computers.
Bible lessons help students learn that we can be part of God’s family. Stories from the Old and New Testaments present God as our Creator by showing how He cares for His people, and by focusing on Jesus, God’s promised Savior. Three and four-year-olds memorize Bible verses and four-year-olds participate in a weekly chapel with songs and special stories.
The program introduces children to nursery rhymes, the alphabet and alphabet phonics. Readiness skills are enhanced with hands-on projects, poems and finger plays. Sign language is incorporated to help four year-olds learn letters and sounds. The writing of the alphabet as well as their names are also introduced.
Our three and four-year-olds learn math by using manipulatives. Students learn to make patterns, count, sort and classify. Social studies and science are integrated with language arts. Social studies lessons center on the student’s understanding of his/her self as a unique person in the family and in the community. Students celebrate holidays with artwork, songs, field trips, stories, a shared feast with young Pilgrims and Indians, and other classroom celebrations. Students learn good citizenship skills as they share, take turns, listen, follow important rules and take responsibility for cleaning up and putting things away.
Science topics investigated are temperature, texture, and daily weather. Students also learn about the seasons and the appropriate clothing.
The concepts we introduce to our pre-school students are expanded and more fully developed in our Kindergarten program.
