Girls Varsity Basketball

The Lady crusaders battled the top VCAA team before losing 58-35 to Spirit. Abby Hudson did well, scoring 10 points. Next, our girls’ bench scored 46 points as we beat Banner Christian 73-20. Natalie Slayden scored 12 points, Andrea Tucker 10, Arielle Torrence 10 and sixth grader Brittany Person had 10 to lead WECS.
We next hosted Appomattox Regional Governor’s School and had to endure the Dragons running the score up on our smaller Crusaders, 74-19. Maddy Crocker scored 8 points as our leader. The girls record stands at [7-8] overall, but holding third place in the VCAA with a [6-2] record.
The Lady Crusaders ripped Salem Christian 39-13, led by Jordan Torrence with 12 points. A very physical Victory Christian beat us 34-28 as Jordan scored 15. We rebounded against Central Virginia Home school on “Dillon Night” by beating the Patriots in an exciting game, 47-40. Carley Warthan led a fourth quarter surge, as she hit 7 of 12 free throws and scored 15 points, J.Torrence added 11 points. In the Tidewater tournament, we ave Tidewater Academy a battle before bowing 45-26. Maddy Crocker scored 11 points to lead the way. Against Isle of Wight academy, it was a game to forget, as nothing went right in a 48-13 loss. We sorely needed center Abby Hudson for that tournament who couldn’t make the trip. We bounced back against a stubborn Salem Christian team, trailing at half, but dominated the second half as we won 41-24. Jordan scored 17 points and Abby added 10 to lead the way. The lady Crusaders are [6-6 overall], but [5-1 VCAA conference], tied for second place. Jordan leads the team with a 9.4 PPG, Maddy is 7.0 PPG and Carley is 5.3 PPG.
The Lady Crusaders lost to Amelia Academy 73-23, beat Richmnod Christian 32-26 behind Jordan Torrence’s 19 points, and Banner Christian 53-23, as Torrence scored 17 and Maddy Crocker added 16; lost to Hopewell High 46-17, with Crocker getting 12 of the 17 points, and lost to Appomattox RGS 67-32, Crocker had 11 points,then beat Grove Ave. 48-27, as Abby Hudson led a balance attack with 10 points. Maddy Crocker leads the team with a 9.6 PPG average, Jordan Torrence is at 8.3 PPG, and Carley Warthan is at 5.3 PPG.

Brooke Butterworth [16.1] points per game, Ashleigh Warthan [11.3], Carley Warthan [4.3], Abby Hudson [4.2], Madi Crocker [3.7], Meredith Crocker [3.1], Nesha Williams [2.8], Arielle torrence [1.7], Jordan Torrence [1.3], ashton parrish [0.8], Laura Rowe [0.4], and Brianna Person [0.2]. Ashleigh has [9.0] rebounds per game and [3.1] assists per game, Brooke has [4.6] steals per game, Ashleigh has 41 three point shots, Carley 9, Madi 4, Brooke 3, and Ashton one.
Our Lady Crusaders struggled against last year’s champs, Spirit Athletics, losing 42-21, in our first game. We had to play Spirit again a week later in the Three Point Marketing Tournament, but this time we gave them a fit before falling short, 34-31. Brooke Butterworth is the leading scorer at 13 PPG, Ashleigh Warthan is at 5 PPG, Carley Warthan 4.5 PPG, and Abby Hudson 3.5 PPG.
