West End Christian School was established in 1949 as an outreach ministry of West End Presbyterian Church. The school began as a kindergarten program. In 1957 WECS graduated their first senior class. In 1964 what appeared as a tragedy hit West End. On May 5 the entire school, except for the gym, burned to the ground. In God’s providence the school year was completed by having classes in the gym and at two local churches. God continued to bless WECS and in only a year the new school and church were completed.
As of August 1, 2010, West End Christian School is no longer a ministry of the church. It is governed by an independent board.
